Conductor Tech Careers
Our Mission
2010 will the 20th anniversary of the first web server developed for the Internet by Tim Berners-Lee. His goal was to harness the power of networked systems to simplify the exchange of information between people. In many ways the Berners-Lee’s World Wide Web is the first and most power cloud computer on the planet. It has been so successful that it’s difficult to estimate the number of web pages online today. Search engines like Google, Yahoo!, Bing, and Baudu are the Columbus’s of the Internet Age, mapping the contours of the continents of the information that are dimly visible through the mist of acronyms that make up the ocean sea of content on the web.
At Conductor tech our mission is to enable our customers to better navigate the new worlds that the major search engines discover every day. The web is a body of information that is constantly changing. Each SERP is a newly drawn map of the pages associated with an end users search query. Sometimes search results ebb and flow like the tides and at other times results violently rise and plunge like Columbus’s 65 foot caravel tossing in the winds of a hurricane.
Why does one web page rank higher than another for a given search term? There is a lot of speculation but little scientific work addressing this question. The search engine algorithms responsible for search results and page rank are proprietary. Like the dragons drawn on early maps of the world many myths have developed about how search engines behave. The only real way to know is to measure and test. Conductor Tech’s researchers and engineers take nothing at face value. In Europe, before the age of exploration, it was widely believed that China and the Indies lay on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. But if you analyze the data you find the dragons evaporate and new worlds open up.
Our People
At Conductor Tech, we have a diverse team of experienced engineers and researchers from innovators like Apple, Google, Yahoo, Xanga, Guruji, DoubleClick & Universities like Carnegie Mellon, Stanford, & IIT. But that’s not how we planned it. Our interview process is focused on finding the best and most passionate minds. We look for problem solvers and people who are driven to create something great. It’s not easy joining Conductor Tech but if you want to be a part of a technologist-driven organization where the “Principles behind the Agile Manifesto” are tacked up on the wall then Conductor Tech is your new home.
Our Stack
The Conductor Tech codebase is modern; we started with the best development tools and technologies we could find. We love to use open standards but we are not afraid to roll up our sleeves and write our own libraries when needed. Today our Machine Learning algorithms use the WEKA framework, our web applications are written in Java using Spring, Hibernate, and OSGi. Our automated testing is based on Robot and Selenium. But there is plenty of Python and PHP scripting to do as well.
