Online Brokerage Industry Fails to Capitalize On Bullish Natural Search Markets

NEW YORK, October 27, 2010 – Conductor, the most widely-used SEO technology company, today released their SEO research study, “Visibility Report: The Online Brokerage Industry.” Given the enormous amounts of money online brokerage companies spend online to acquire new customers and build brand equity, Conductor found a surprising lack of attention paid to where most of the clicks occur – in the natural search space.  This report breaks down the winners and losers – and provides specific and effective recommendations on how these and other organizations can turn those lost clicks into revenue.

By the end of 2010, online trading assets will have reached into the trillions of dollars, at the same time the top industry search terms will account for 145 million monthly searches. Since online brokerages provide clients with convenience and low trading costs, there is a clear opportunity for firms to implement SEO management tactics to generate search engine traffic. Conductor’s SEO research report found that overall the online brokerage companies’ top paid keywords are not ranking, appearing after page ten, within natural search results, representing a clear opportunity for improvement.

Key takeaways include:

  • On average, three-quarters of the brokerage companies’ keywords analyzed were not ranking in natural search.
  • The online brokerage industry is one of the largest spenders in paid search; paying more than $7.5M per month on paid search.
  • A significantly larger percentage of their search engine traffic comes from natural (68%) compared to paid search (32%).
