# Ask Conductor

> Ask Conductor answers questions about your account's data in natural language.

Ask Conductor is a conversational AI assistant built into the Conductor platform. Instead of clicking through reports to assemble an answer, you ask a question in plain language—"which topics cite us most?"—and Ask Conductor queries your account's data and answers immediately.

Ask Conductor uses the same tools that power [Conductor's MCP](/docs/mcp/what-is-mcp/), so the answers come from **your** AI search and traditional search data rather than generic SEO advice. Because those tools run inside the platform, you don't need a ChatGPT or Claude subscription—or any third-party access to your data—to use it.

## Why use Ask Conductor?

* **Answers from your own data.** Every response is grounded in the accounts, topics, prompts, brands, and keywords you already track in Conductor.
* **No external LLM required.** Ask Conductor runs in the platform, so you get conversational analysis without setting up a connector or bringing your own model.
* **A faster path from insight to action.** Ask a question, get an answer, and follow up in the same conversation instead of exporting data and rebuilding the analysis elsewhere.

## Using Ask Conductor

1. In Conductor's navigation, click **Ask Conductor**.
2. Start a **New chat** or open a previous chat from the **My chats** list on the left.
3. Have your conversation.

## What to keep in mind

* **Verify what matters.** Ask Conductor summarizes and explores your data—it does not replace your judgment. Confirm important metrics and comparisons against the underlying report before you act on them.
* **Data freshness varies by dataset and configuration.** AI Search Performance and traditional keyword data refreshes based on your configured tracking frequency: daily, weekly, or monthly.
* **Scope shapes the answer.** The topics, prompts, brands, engines, markets, and time periods configured in your account define what Ask Conductor can see.
* **It's a conversation, not a project manager.** Ask Conductor doesn't manage complex multi-step tasks or save chat history into external project management tools.
* **Tell us when an answer looks wrong.** You can submit feedback on a response, which helps us improve it.

<Accordion title="What data can I query with Ask Conductor?">
  Ask Conductor uses trained LLM models to reference the following data sets in your Conductor accounts for context:

  * **Tracked Configs:** View configured accounts, topics, prompts, brands, web properties, AI engines, locales, personas, intents, keyword groups, and tracked keywords.
  * **AI Brand Insights:** Analyze AI-generated brand mentions, share of voice, sentiment, and competitive positioning.
  * **AI Citation Insights:** Analyze websites and domains cited by AI engines, including citation share, cited pages, and URL drilldowns.
  * **Keyword Insights:** Analyze traditional Google SEO rankings, search visibility, search volume, SERP features, keyword groups, and competitor rankings.
  * **AI Query Fan-Out Insights:** Analyze the search queries AI engines generate behind tracked prompts, including depth, branded queries, providers, and brand impact.

  Ask Conductor and [Conductor's MCP](/docs/mcp/what-is-mcp/) draw on the same underlying tools and data, but they serve different workflows:

  * **Ask Conductor** is built into the platform for quick, in-context questions while you work in Conductor.
  * **Conductor's MCP** connects your Conductor data to an external assistant such as [Claude](/docs/mcp/claude/) or [ChatGPT](/docs/mcp/chatgpt-codex/), where you can combine it with other tools, skills, and data sources. <Accordion title="How should I use Ask Conductor's answers?">
  Treat them as a starting point for analysis. Check the relevant sources, settings, markets, and date ranges; independently verify important conclusions before acting on them; and apply your own expertise. You can also submit feedback when an answer appears incorrect or incomplete.

<Accordion title="Can Ask Conductor provide an incorrect or misleading answer?">
  Yes. Like other AI assistants, Ask Conductor may produce a plausible-sounding answer that is inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, or more certain than the available evidence supports. It may misunderstand an ambiguous question, make unsupported inferences, or overlook important context. The topics, prompts, markets, filters, and time periods configured in Conductor can also limit the data available to it.

<Accordion title="Does cited or Conductor-sourced data guarantee that the answer is correct?">
  No. The underlying data may be accurate while the AI's summary or interpretation is not. Review the supporting report or source to confirm that important metrics, comparisons, and recommendations preserve the original meaning and scope.

<Accordion title="Why might Ask Conductor and the Conductor platform show differences in numbers and values?">
  Ask Conductor and the platform reports draw on the same underlying data, so when the numbers themselves differ, the cause is usually a difference in scope rather than a difference in the data. The most common reasons:

  * **Different time windows.** "Last month" can mean the previous calendar month or the trailing 30 days. Reports also may or may not include the current, still-collecting period, which can pull a figure up or down.
  * **Different filters in play.** Your dashboard remembers the engines, markets, and topic groups you last selected. Ask Conductor answers across everything in your account unless you tell it otherwise. If your report is filtered to two engines and Ask Conductor is looking at all of them, the totals will legitimately differ.
  * **Different denominators.** Share of voice can be measured against every response collected, or only against responses where some brand was mentioned. Both are valid views — they just answer different questions and produce different percentages.
  * **Data still settling.** Collections arrive continuously and are periodically reconciled. A number read early in a period may shift slightly once collection for that period completes.

  To reconcile a specific number, ask Ask Conductor for the exact date range, engines, and metric definition behind its answer, then match those to your report's filters. In our experience the two line up once the scope is identical. If they still don't match, send us the question you asked and the report you're comparing it to, and we'll trace it directly.
