April 1, 2010, NEW YORK – Conductor, the premier provider of SEO measurement and optimization technology, today released their research study, “Visibility Report: The Anti-Virus Industry.” The report is an analysis of the top ten anti-virus software companies’ natural search visibility and search traffic acquisition strategies over a one year period. The research finds that the leading anti-virus software companies are struggling to achieve natural search visibility.

Anti-virus search terms account for tens of millions of monthly search queries, with 10 of the most active anti-virus keywords accounting for nearly 13 million monthly searches. This SEO research study revealed the top 10 anti-virus software companies’ on average appear in the top 5 natural search positions only 5% of the time for their most competitive industry keywords and only 6% of the time for their individual 1000 most expensive paid search keywords. The study also reported AVG as the industry search traffic leader, receiving the most traffic by far, nearly double second place Symantec. AVG’s dominant traffic share was due in large part to their capturing the highest percentage of “free anti-virus” search traffic AVG also had the highest average daily paid search spend at $3,403, yet only 6% of their total search visits resulted from paid search.
