  • Comparing your domain to a competitor’s in Research
  • Finding content gaps and “striking distance” opportunities

Step-by-step

Here are the steps we cover in the video, with relevant links to more information. Be sure to watch to get more context and decision support for potential choices you might have to make as you go:
  1. Click “Start a New Draft” in Writing Assistant ↗️.
  2. Set Targets. Select your domain and market, then add up to five target topics (or select from suggested pages / paste in an existing URL if you’re optimizing a page instead of starting fresh).
  • Use the Review Opportunity panel to see combined search volume and projected traffic impact.
  1. In Comparison Pages, review the top-ranking pages Writing Assistant pulled based on your target topics. Hide any sources that aren’t a good fit for research — forums, videos, low-quality pages — to keep the AI focused on your strongest competitors. Aim to keep at least seven.
  2. In Refine Brief, review the AI-generated Objective, Audience, Content Type, Journey Stage, Subtopics, Questions to Answer, and suggested body copy terms.
  • Pro-Tip: Treat this like editing a creative brief before handing it to a freelancer. Sharpen the audience description, remove subtopics that are out of scope, and add ones your own research flagged — the more specific your edits, the better the draft.
  1. In Customize Style, upload Knowledge Sources (like internal PDFs or notes) so the AI grounds its draft in your own data, and select a Content Profile to apply your brand’s tone, audience, and rules.
  • Pro-Tip: Build Content Profiles in Settings first, using your existing brand style guides to define Audience, Voice and Tone, and Usage Rules. Need more help? See this guide on How to Create Powerful Content Profiles.
