May 2025 has been volatile for search metrics, with AI Overviews now appearing in 14% of queries (a 69% month-over-month increase). Despite this rise, many websites across various sectors are seeing positive organic growth, particularly in finance, suggesting the market is normalizing after years of instability.

At a recent creator summit, Google advised content creators to stop writing for algorithms and focus on readers instead. Their message emphasized eliminating keyword stuffing and creating helpful, clear content that prioritizes user satisfaction over SEO tricks.

The search landscape is diversifying beyond traditional engines to include AI assistants, Reddit, and video platforms. Pat predicts Google will eventually be fully powered by its Gemini LLM, and that AI Overviews will be monetized with ads, potentially expanding to 30-40% of all queries (from the current 14%).

April 2026 Edition
The April 30|30 webinar highlights a period of stabilization as Google’s March Core Update concluded with "very little bite" compared to the "violent" December update. While the update was relatively "boring," it successfully penalized "AI slop," whereas high-authority sites in Apparel and Health Tech—such as Shein.com and Dexcom.com—saw Year-over-Year visibility gains of 24% and 23% respectively. Government sites remained largely unaffected, with Data.gov and SBA.gov reporting flat performance through the rollout.
