During October’s 30|30 webinar, the discussion explored how AI is changing search visibility and referral traffic. AI referrals average 1.62% across more than 1.1 billion sessions, with results varying by industry and brand. BandLab saw referrals decline 19%, while Splice grew 13% and Avid.com increased 12%. In beauty, Chanel declined 9%, Glossier 23%, and Maybelline 13%, while accounting firm BPM saw a 225% increase. Meanwhile, Google AI Overviews continue expanding, including for branded searches.
The webinar also highlighted concerns that traditional rank tracking may become less reliable as Google personalizes results and scraping tools encounter manipulated data. A Nozzle study found poisoned results appearing roughly 5–11% of the time daily beginning October 1. Brands should therefore measure visibility more broadly through Search Console, AI visibility, and referral traffic as search becomes increasingly conversational and AI-driven.
The key takeaway is that brands must build expertise, create helpful and specific content, and become trusted sources for both people and AI platforms. Although AI referrals remain a small share of overall traffic, their impact varies by industry. Discussions at Conductor’s C3 Conference also emphasized the growing importance of agentic AI search and AEO, reinforcing that useful, audience-focused content remains essential.
