It’s been a wild ride in the SEO world! Google's August Core Update swooped in like a digital tornado, tossing websites around the search results. Many found themselves bumped off page one, while Reddit stood firm, apparently Google's new BFF.

At the same time, Google decided to play double agent – introducing AI Overviews for the non-signed-in crowd while sneakily removing infinite scroll on mobile.

All in all, this past month kept SEO pros on their toes, proving once again that in the world of search, the only constant is change. And maybe Reddit's unshakeable popularity?

August 2026 Edition
Pat's August recap covered AI referral traffic trends across EdTech, Home Builders, and Senior Living, all hit by the March core update while AI Overview visibility kept rising. He also broke down three news stories: Claude's easily-defeated new watermarking, Cloudflare's shallow new AI-visibility dashboard, and French newspapers suing Google over AI Overviews cutting their traffic. He closed by noting Google's worldwide AI Overviews expansion is behind most of this, and that great content for real customers still beats chasing algorithms.
