How can a growing industry like consumer security software remain largely invisible in search? Our analysis of the top ten anti-virus software companies’ natural search visibility and search traffic acquisition strategies revealed that only 5% of competitive industry keywords (keywords at least ½ the companies were bidding on) and 6% of their most expensive paid keywords appeared in the top 5 search results. And yet the industry as a whole is projected to grow by 13% within the year, to 1.6 billion.
